About me:

I am, among other things, a doctoral student in medieval history, which lends me a vague air of knowledgeable authority. Despite what the title may have led you to believe, I don't really study chivalry, but it was a late night in the workroom with only me, a book, and a lot of free cake. I also work as a museum guide, which kicks me out of the strange world of academia into the no-less-strange world of public history. Right now I know rather a lot about approximately forty years of history in Brittany in the late Middle Ages, which I admit is not all that relevant to daily life. But that's the angle I'm coming from!

As a blogger, I have historically (oh, a pun!) not been very good at it--that is, at remembering to update. So while I'm treating of historical topics, don't expect extensive research here. I'm not footnoting, I'm not citing specific examples if I don't know them off the top of my head. This means that I will actually have the energy to make posts on a semi-regular basis. You want references, read my academic work! I am, however, happy to clarify specific points upon request.

Also as a blogger, I am not the best at finding typos, because computer screens are very painful  for me to look at and so I have to limit the amount of time I spend making a post. It's not an excuse, but an explanation. Maybe I shouldn't be blogging! Probably right, but that's where the conversation is happening today, and I'll be damned if I'll let physical comfort shut me up...

Now you know!

About COASH:

Again, I don't know too much about chivalry itself. But it's a concept that has been given both great historical and narrative weight over the years. Likewise, this blog concerns itself not only with neat aspects of history, but with how people (academics and normal) think about history (and make mistakes about it!). I am particularly interested in the conjunction between history and fantasy; with public history in museums; and understanding mentalities, both past and present, in their social context.
